Gallery Time period Globes

Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology

At the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology we were updating the globes that are spread throughout the gallery at each period. These globes are there to demonstrate which period in time you are walking through as well as where and how the province of Alberta looked like during the period. The globes were being reprinted, so the project included updating and redesigning the text panels and geological timescales that surrounded the globes, along with updating the touch specimens that accompanied the panels.

There are arches throughout the galleries to mark which era you are walking through, therefore the geological timescale above the globes has the eras (and their periods) in the colour that is also being used on the arches in the galleries. For the text panels, I wanted to incorporate them with the timescale, while making them smooth edges to safely approach, as well as create a flow that subtly suggests to the turning of the globe.
